The avoid method sees you use the variety of distractions at your disposal to distract or temporarily incapacitate any enemies in your way.
This adds a constant threat to your mission and makes you think twice before committing to the attack. Get it wrong and the kill will be clumsy and the struggle will alert near by enemies. Do this correctly and your kill will be clean and silent keeping near by enemies oblivious to your presence. When you decide the time is right to strike you will be met with a quick prompt to move the mouse in a certain direction. Your enemies aren't deaf and you aren't made of air so you must carefully move so as not to alert your prey with your footsteps. As a ninja you are trained to move quickly and quietly. The confront method has you use a variety of tactics and tools such as vent crawling, branch hanging, interacting with the environment, using smoke screens and firecrackers to lure enemies and many more methods to quickly and quietly end your opponents life. Your health is non regenerative and your enemies are not all FNG's so you will certainly not be breezing through levels slaughtering enemies without a second thought. Bodies must also be hidden to prevent the alarm being raised causing enemies to become more aware to your presence.
You must use vents and keyholes to gain a full view of the situation. Unless you can see into a room you are limited to listening to footsteps and hoping there isnt someone else sitting down. This is all too easy to happen with the line of sight system used. Trying to confront an enemy may work if your quick enough but confronting two or three is a quick way to end your journey. Having trained your whole life to be the best there is and with the power of the Mark you are more than ready to take on your enemies from the shadows however as mentioned early in the story you are not a honourable samurai and your Mark does not make you bulletproof. Gameplay in Mark of the Ninja is split into two categories: Confront or Avoid.
